Week 17 final

My use of social media for our business changed dramatically during this semester, in terms of staying aware with the entire tools that social media brings. I was introduced to the diverse type of platforms that were available outside of the more popular ones. These different social platforms allowed us to examine our own use of social media, and the time we needed to invest in establishing and updating various sites. This led me to understand what it takes to manage multiple sites, in terms of man hours and money. We could no longer keep up with timely posting and update information. We had to hire a social media person that managed postings and updated all sites on a daily basis. We would have never considered looking at social media for business this carefully if not for this class. We learned how important it is to stay updated on all our sites, which can lead to a positive experience for all our visitors online.

The most impact social media brought to our business are local awareness and improved presence with our online exposures. We have shown a significant increase in new students showing up at the studio based on their interactions with various websites (Groupon,Facebook, Twitter, and Meetup,)

From a business perspective, my views on social media have changed. Its audience base is huge and the cost of advertising is reasonable. It provides small businesses an easy do it yourself marketing campaign, a control of contents and multiple options of scheduling your ads.

After this semester I now have a better understanding of what to develop and how to use it as an effective tool for our business. But time and money still determine the end results of how successful each of our business campaigns will be.

I found several social media platforms like blogging, LinkedIn, and Meetup that we never considered until this semester. I'm considering trying out blogging for personal and business interactions. I like the Meetup for its accessibility to group interest base on different activity plans. The response from our event posting with Meetup has been very positive with multiple people signing up with our program.

Week 16 part 3

The best social media tool for our business would be Facebook business page, Twitter, and Instagram. We have shaped our posting history with both platforms and the following we now have are regular and interactive. Our posting are on a weekly basis and updated with lots of current and future events. The ease of accessing both platforms is the key to managing the sites with updated information.

Our business spends an estimated 4 hours daily on social media marketing or more based on what we are currently promoting. The focus on social media marketing investment is important for us because our business is so competitive and a high percentage of consumers are doing online researches on the latest and greatest deal in town. To keep our online presence high we must be aggressive with our marketing investment on all fronts.

We chose the platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as the main tools to use for our business moving forward. We plan to saturate those sites with multiple videos, dramatic images and colorful postings to measure the online reactions and responses. In the past, we have not been aggressive in promoting studio events via videos and engaging pictures. We hope this aggressive approach can stimulate more interest that people can learn to connect with our way of life.

In the coming months, our studio will have several workshops and events we’re putting together for new clients, and current clients. We will designate a social media person to follow these events and document them via videos and pictures. Our plan is to post them weekly and share a community story of how we celebrate our fitness lifestyle with our clients on a daily basis. The hope is to create a stronger presence with our online communities and make them understand that for shanti kitti yoga studio, we share in the development of our student not just from the fitness and healthy lifestyle but also in their spiritual growth. On a weekly basis, we will monitor all the reactions and responses and learn to create a better tool on how we can sustain an active social media presence that can help our business grow.

Week 16 part 1

I think having the power of social media for consumers to use as a communication tool to express their disappointments, and likes in the services and products is a major gain for consumers. This puts the businesses on notice in the way they handle themselves when it comes to their customers’ satisfaction. Businesses learn in order for them to compete and be successful, they need to know their customers. What they values and what’s important to them in regards to safety, clean environment, conservation measures and the quality of their own products. The social media becomes a consumer watchdog for companies that are in disregards of accepted environmental, and safety practices.

Given the type of our business, Facebook and Instagram are the best social media platform to reach out and connect with people. The most enjoyable one for me would be the Facebook business page, the ease of transition from your personal page to your business page is a big deal. Most people are on their Facebook pages on a daily bases whether it’s checking personal items, socializing or doing business events. This makes posting to your business page convenient and this is the biggest advantage for me. The second social platform I enjoy is Instagram. I like the quick video and pictures posting without trying to write too many words. The ease of posting and letting the images and videos speaks for itself is another great tool to have in connecting with people.

Week 15 part 2

According to the Insight page on my Facebook business page, this listed updates on all activities in the last seven days. There eight page views, four new page likes, and four post engagements. Under the notification page, the recent activity that changed this week on my business page are the amount of new likes I received (6). There are now a total of 10 likes on the business page as of today. Under the pages published activities, only one new activity this week, a posting on warrior classes on May 16 and 19 2017. There are no recent updates under the sections (type, targeting, reach, engagement) as of this week.

Week 15 part 1

Audience center would be the most beneficial for our business. It can help us understand our customers better in the way they react and interact with our online ads. In our Industry, our customers are always looking for the best deal in town. What we want to understand is how to keep these customers interested in events, workshops and classes. What makes them open certain ads and not others? This tool will help us with all our future advertising. This Analytics can help us differentiate what type of ads will work and which customers to target, which can translate into saving us time and money in the way we approach and interact with future advertisings online.

Week 14

The effectiveness of my (Twitter and FaceBook) ads will rely on “free classes” to get everyone’s attention and remove the risk from their experience. This ad targets specific demographic near the studio for their convenience. It calls out to people’s fitness lifestyle during the time of the year when everyone tends to gravitate toward being more physically active.

There are several objectives in our ads. The first one is to capture new clients with the “free classes” offer and allow them to feel the energy of the studio without the financial risk upfront. The second is to focus on the Oceanside zip code 92057 and focus on the nearby residents that are close to the studio for convenient. The ad objective for our local studio that makes sense is to focus on local traffic within Oceanside community. The practice of sustaining a healthy lifestyle is a challenging process, countless studies have been done to show that the closer a person is to their gym the more they are going to sustain their practice.

Week 13 part 2

I feel the design for your ads are vital to reaching the most connection with customers online. Given the nature of the consumers’ environment online where information is consumed with speed. Your ad will need to stand out and attract with real time impact to immediately capture their attention. Using the “principals of good design” ads should be put together with careful attention to the following areas: SPACE – making sure it’s simple and not congested with too many information. REPETITION- keeping all the fonts, text size, company logos and colors uniformed and consistent thought the ads. SCALE – provides comparisons within the ads, bringing attention to the area of importance. CONTRAST – providing different views on sizes, colors and contents within the ads. LINES – the proper alignment and placement of your lines and curves brings the audience eyes to the area of attention. BALANCE – creates a great synchronization of all the contents within your ads that can hold an audience attention. COLOR – creates the emotional impact on the mood and the environment.

The type of advertising our business could use is a combination of localized online and traditional advertising. This is important for us because we are a local yoga studio that relies on customers that lives a few miles from our studio. We use ads several times per month. It’s all triggered by the number of workshops, special events and new classes we want to promote.

FaceBook offers several types of advertising. There is the Domain Ad – simple easy to use and the cost is inexpensive. There’s the page post link – You ads is run through a news feed ad, allowing you to post large images to catch more attention from users. There are the Multi-Product ads, which is great for running ads when you have multiple products to offer. There’s the event ads designed for targeting a specific audience for your workshops or events. For our business we use the FaceBook events ad because we can control the amount of money we want to spend and the period of days we want our ads to run. From our experience with running the ads, what we found that running our ads on a weekly period helps us monitor the exposure activities and we can analyze if we want to extend our ads or adjust our geographical location to target more people.

Week 13 part 1

Black Sheep Yoga, Yoga Oceanside, Yoga Vista, Yoga Del Mar, and CorePower Yoga, in my opinion, have strong advertising programs. They have a good representation in all the social sites and are updated in all their postings. Aggressive online promotions with multiple coupon specials and first-time students discounts. In some of their websites, they have active interactions in regards to beginner yoga students and future workshop inquiries.

When looking at Twitter and FaceBook ads, the ones that stand out to me are the ones with great picture presentation especially on food products, graphics on the colors and presentation of the food, almost to a point you hunger for it. In some, the call to action are the emotional contents of their videos, from a person’s personal story or animals life story that can easily tug at your heart and leave a lasting impression. The use of Imagery is very effective because it is very effective in engaging your attention.

The impact of advertising online versus traditional advertising is greater for small and medium businesses who can’t afford the bigger budgets for traditional advertising (radio, newspaper, T.V. ads). Depending on your business, you can reach a larger customer base with online advertising including International markets for less than it would cost you for a traditional advertising targeting the same area of coverage. Again, given the amount of budget, and for most small and medium businesses the online marketing is better.

Week 12 part 2

There are a number of groups I found on LinkedIn and Google+ that can help with my business. Some have the latest fitness programs incorporating other exercises that I never considered. It’s made me rethink some of my own fitness programs. There are also companies that are offering services to expand your marketing program and ways of reaching out to more customers. The opportunities to connect are endless it just requires a considerable amount of time to sort out and plan how to use them with my business and maximize each connection.

Groupon and Living Social are a great way to encourage customers to try out new businesses and get a feel of the environment to see if it’s something they like without the initial long term commitments. Most of the benefits are with the customers, which allow them to attend certain classes unlimited for a set price. It gives them a time period to interact with other customers and build some connection. The downfall is that there’s not much profit to gain from coupon program, most businesses look at it as an advertising expense.

We have a current Yelp account, with several reviews under Shanti Kitti Yoga. I think the impact is the added opportunity for additional exposure to our business and to allow customers a quick and easy way to locate us.

Week 12 part 1

1. Social Media - Buffer is a great tool to use for automating social update on all your sites. The most challenging area of running a social media site is saving time. Buffer can manage all the posting and updates in one single session saving you time and money.

2. Graphic Design and Visual content – Canva provides you the tool for creating eye-catching social media web pages with stunning graphic designs that do not require a lot of expertise and are very user-friendly. A great graphic design on your website can help attract more traffic and interest into your business.

3. Groupon is a great incentive for new students to try out the studio and get a feel for the studio environment without the initial large membership upfront. They can have the opportunity to meet current members and create some connections.

4. Living Social is similar to Groupon, this online marketing tool can help reach out to more customers by offering coupons for new customers for a great trial price. When combined with Groupon they can create a positive impact in reaching out to new business traffic by providing deep discounts for new members.

Week 11

The information I would use on our business newsletter would focus on healthy lifestyle habits, mindfulness practice, and fitness for the aging population. I would schedule to send them out once per month. My contents will be broken down into several areas of topics. Under the “healthy lifestyle habits” I would cover areas that can provide tips on how small changes can make a big difference in living your aging years with quality and confidence. There would be top 10 tips on what you can do to practice healthy living. There will be a section on what are the best diets for the aging population. Under “mindfulness practice” there will be several sections that illustrate and explain how mediation can help quiet your mind, how to find the right tools to use when practicing meditation, and the various ways of meditating. One section will talk about the importance of keeping your mind active and engaged, similar to working out the body in order to stay fit. The last section will talk about the right fitness routine to use for an aging population that has special needs. One section will cover a fitness workout for people with cardiovascular disease, recovering cancer patients or current cancer patients, people with obesity and diabetic health concerns. Other contents will focus on aging population recovering from cardiovascular diseases, surgery and from other forms of cancer. I feel our customer base will enjoy reading the various articles because these are the everyday issues they face and they want to have the knowledge in their pursuit for a quality aging life.

Week 10 part 2

The categories I would use to stay organized are on health and fitness lifestyle for people over 50. This would allow me to focus on a specialty field and reach the correct demographic. This will help narrow my target audience and allow me to focus on marketing to a specific group. This specialty will separate me from the other fitness clubs that just caters to a wider clientele. My view is that the aging population will continue to rise and we will need more specialty fitness classes that cater to their specific needs. This refocusing on the aging population fitness needs, can help the business grow.

Week 10 part1

I think people’s natural state is happiness and the love of connection, whether it’s with other people, with nature or animals. Humans love to connect with their emotions and their physical form. Using this as a reference point when sharing blogs and describing personal experience will help connect you with a large base of people because it speaks to them. They want to hear about your life dramas and suffering, they need to connect and to get caught up in the vortex of whatever energy you have to share. I think personal touch should be added authentically on a regular basis, based on the products or the business you have. Personal touch or experience should not be manufactured for the sake of promotional posting.

Monday, April 3, 2017

Week 9

I used “fitness Oceanside” and “yoga Oceanside” as my search word to find other businesses to connect with. There was a large pool of businesses to choose from in the Oceanside area. My main focus was to stay local and make the connections with nearby businesses to share some interest with the possibility of actually getting people to visit the fitness studio.

I created a list that is titled “longevity lifestyle” I feel a list can help provide you with a specific topic that can be pursued with like minded people. This allows your topic conversation to maintain a specific connection and shared audience without the interference of additional or outside topics that can muddy the area of your concern.

I feel the best time to have your tweets connect with people is probably in the middle of the day. It’s the period when everyone has gone through their more important part of the day and they now have the recreational time to survey what activities they can finish their week with.

Week 8 part 2

Visual media works well with the type of business we  started because it provides us with an inexpensive and simple marketing tool that can reach a large demographic. We are focused on the health and wellness lifestyle which captures a large segment of our target market that are connected and well educated in the use of social media and other Internet platforms. This translates into a community that relies heavily on visual media on their daily interactions online, and becomes a great environment for businesses to explore.

Yoga Del Mar – Uses visual medial effectively with eye catching pictures and web design. They use the Facebook business page and they post two to three times per week with various activities for the week. Last post was March 18, 2017, they have 1372 likes and 1316 people follow their site. There are a number of comments dating back to 2013.

Blacksheep Yoga Studio – They use visual media by listing all past and current events in their studio. They are using Facebook business page and are active in their posting, showing last posting of March 17, 2017 with a frequency of three to four times per week. Their use of visual media looks very effective from the numbers of their followers. They have 1775 likes and 1700 followers. There are a number of comments dating back to 2016.

Yoga Vista Studio – Uses visual media by listing updated workshops and special events. They also list current schedule for future activities with teachers and pictures of the events. This studio uses Facebook with active posting dated March 15, and a posting frequency of two to three times per week. Their use of visual medial looks very effective with 1370 likes and 1346 followers. There are a number of comments dating back to 2016.

The Soul of Yoga - Uses visual media by listing updated workshops and special events represented by pictures and videos. The studio uses Facebook with active posting dated March 14, 2017 and a posting frequency of three to four times per week. They have 14,472 likes and 14,158 followers. There are a number of comments dating back to 2014.

Week 8 post 1

The visual platform that works well with our business is Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. These visual networks are the right match for us, given our target market. The decisions to pick them were based on our own experience, which taught us how much time it takes to maintain various social media platforms. One of the most challenging tasks in maintaining a business social media platform is staying current with your postings and choosing postings that are consistent with our business identity. This process alone takes time to sort out and balance the theme to post for the day. With our hectic daily schedule, the ease of posting with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram made it an easy choice.

Thursday, March 9, 2017

Week 7 post 2

These posts will engage my audience by giving them a different option of activities at the studio. It has pictures to capture their imaginations and see results from clients. The pictures are attention getting from the individual fitness goal both models accomplished; this fitness experience can help inspire a different audience.

week 7 post1

I choose to like the businesses above because of the similarity with my own business.   My plan is to make some connections with like-minded people and business owners to inquire about current and future events.  This is also a great platform to see what everyone is doing in the industry.   This feature might someday lead to the possibility of organizing events and attending workshops that can help expose your business to other businesses with different style and ideas to experience.

Saturday, March 4, 2017

Week 6

Post reach tells you how many people you have reached, it tells you how well you are exposing your business to the target market.  Post engagement tells you how many “views, clicks, comments, likes and shares your posts get”.  It is a great tool for letting you know your customer's intentions on participating.

Knowing the difference between posts reach and post engagement gives you a measuring tool on how well you are interacting with your target market.  This will, in turn, help you manage your posting to better target your audiences.

Facebook Insights is a tool for people that are interested in tracking down their customer's responses on their Facebook.  Businesses can better serve their customers by listening and paying attention to the customers’ responses and activities relating to your business page.  This information can help businesses create a database that will allow them to post the perfect ad or daily posting that attracts the most attention.

Week 5 part 2

Our target customers are people in the age group of 30 and over, who are interested in pursuing an alternative fitness and healthy lifestyle, looking for a break from a regular fitness gym. They are interested in practicing their muscular strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and spiritual health in an intimate setting away from a crowded clubs or gyms. They are health conscious, mindful, active people who are active in their communities in preserving their natural environments. We are focused on local people in the Oceanside community that are conveniently located near our studio.

Friday, February 24, 2017

Week 5 part 1

http://www.econobum.com – calls to action for this website consisted of “buy now” logo in a bold color enticing customers to click on the products then leading them to a new page showing the products original price with a slashed mark, then showing the actual price showing the considerable saving.

http://www.justcheapdiapers.com – calls to action for this website is in the form of highlighted logo on the left side of the home page with a “monthly saving offer” and a “save” tab, enticing customer for more saving.

The differences in each company’s target markets, one is focused on families who are environmentally conscious and concerned about using natural cloth material for diapers for healthier experience with their babies and supporting their particular lifestyles. The other company is focused on basic disposable products focused on customers who are on low income, or fixed budget.

The obvious differences in the two websites are the type of products they are selling. One is a cloth product, focused on being environmentally friendly and the other is focused on savings based on purchase quantities. The crossover between the two customers is they are looking for baby products. The conclusion I can draw from their audience based on their website design and overall tone and message, one population are environmentally conscious, a healthy lifestyle and are willing to pay a higher price as long as the products are consistent with their lifestyle. The other population is more focused on great savings and convenience of use.

week 4 part 2

https://www.amazon.com/
http://www.cnn.com/

Why are they effective?
They are effective because of their ease of use and are easy to navigate. There’s minimal second guessing where you can find the information.

What specific principles of good design do they include and why?
I like their products alignment and can easily be tracked down. The drop down menus is summarized where you can isolate a particular products or news and filtering is very easy to use.

What makes you come back again?
What makes me come back is their simplicity and ease of use. It’s a user friendly websites.

What could be improved?
For Amazon, the free shipping offer could be extended for all their products. For CNN, more videos with less advertising attached on those videos.

week 4 part 1

http://www.riversideartcenter.org/
Three potential problems for visitors.
No feedback page for customers. No videos available of their products. There is too much information to read in some of their web pages, it was overwhelming.

 http://www.headhunterhairstyling.com/
Three potential problems for visitors.
Webpage is not mobile compatible, the drop down menu headers are coming offline and hard to read. Webpage design too basic, it could have used more colors to make it jump at me. It was difficult to figure out the company’s target audience.

What could be improved on these websites and why would these improvements help?

The feedback page would allow customers to post real time experience on their website. Videos send a more intimate experience of the activities inside the company. Fewer contents allow the customer to get to the information faster without having to sort out the large data field, which can make reading tiresome. Mobile compatibility is important since a larger portion of customers are now using mobile devices for their look up source. A very catchy web page can help attract attention and conveys artistic effort which can go a long way for some customers. A strong focus on the website demographic can help narrow their target market and help drive the right audience to their website.

 http://apple.com
Easy navigation on all their products with detail information readily available. Great interactive web pages with product videos telling a story. Their use of color was catching on all the web pages and products presentation is catching with bold colors.

http://www.toyota.com/
There website is mobile compatible with easy navigation on all their pages. Their Interactive web pages with auto scrolls help present all the available products in an organized way. The drop down menu is very easy to use with clear and concise product description, available without having to flip through all the pages.

How does design, aesthetics and branding impact your reaction to the websites?
Design, aesthetics and branding creates a great impact on me by allowing me to differentiate a product from the competitors. My reaction to a great website is to feel that connection with my artistic side, lifestyle, and passion. It’s important that I feel all of it, it helps creates a story for me that I can believe in and can help me live better in a dream state.

Write a short analysis of their use of social media. Tokallini longevity- doesn’t have a website but relies heavily on social media presence. This company uses ebay.com and groupon as their main source of ordering point and customer feedback. They have an active presence in Facebook but not active on LinkedIn. Shanti Kitti Yoga- has an active website with updated studio events posting. They are active on Facebook, Instagram, groupon and twitter for their advertising exposures. All social media and their website are current and updated on a regular basis. Body Morp Center- active on Facebook, yelp, Instagram but no current posting on google plus. They have a strong presence in all their social media platforms, shown to use Instagram heavily than most other social media platforms. Black Sheep Yoga Studio- Active on their Facebook and twitter accounts with updated studio events and past events. Shows active advertising in Facebook and twitter, all posting are current and well maintained. Qualityexpresstshirts – Relies heavily on Facebook and Instagram exposure. Both social media platforms are active and current on all posting.

What I have discovered after analyzing the 5 businesses is the amount of time required to manage each social media sites. The importance of the contents, and updating current information all take incredible amount of time. I can see why some small businesses are not able to keep up current posting on all their sites. It is a full time job monitoring, updating, correcting and reviewing all the activities that happens in all the platforms. So despite the low cost of advertising in these platforms, maintaining them requires thoughts and a lot of time in order to catch your target audience on a daily basis.

week 3 part 1

I had my share of difficulties communicating with a business.  Some of my issues were service related, most involving excessive hold time on the phone and their unwillingness to solve current issues on the spot.   My incidents involved being transferred to multiple departments without any answers to my issues.  Others involved products that were in poor condition or did not work as promised and the company were unwilling to fix it or replace it.  In all the situations, customer service had poor communications and just prolonged the problems.

Social media can tremendously help getting a business to pay attention to their customers, based on their online comments as long as their experience is true.  The social media platforms that cater to business reviews are great for consumers; it can provide them a real time window on their experience while the experience is still new.   This also provides greater impact on business to pay attention to what their customers are experiencing and avoid open issues that need to be resolving to linger.

I had a few good experiences communicating with businesses through social media.  Most of my experience involved returned items and broken products, so my interactions were quick and easily handled without much delay.

For any positive feedback I would respond by thanking them for their time and effort with their comments and ask them if there are things we can improve.  For any negative comments, my respond will be immediate and offer the customer several options to correct the discrepancies.

My positive experience has been the company’s quick response in resolving my issue, from return products information to shipping and billing.  It helped build my confidence with this company moving forward, knowing that all future discrepancies will be resolved in a timely matter or a full refund.
